The Human Resources department of the Pacific National Exhibition is presently recruiting for the following position:

POSITION: Haunted Attraction Cast Members
WORKING CONDITIONS: FRIGHT NIGHTS (October 1-31); must be available to work evenings as late as 1am as required
WAGE: $10.05/hr

We’re looking for cast members to help us scare the wits out of our Fright Nights guests from October 15-31st.

We are looking for cast members who will to dress up in costume and act out an assigned role in our re-designed Haunted Mansion. Cast members will be provided with safety training, costume and make-up. This job isn’t for everyone; it’s not as easy as it sounds. A strong drama/acting background is preferred.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Cast-based role-play based on assigned scripts within the themes of the haunted houses
•Provide an entertaining and safe Halloween experience to guests through an assigned role
•Active involvement in all haunted house décor and scenes
•Interpret serious or comic role by speech, gesture and body movement to inform or entertain guests
•Possible involvement in dancing and singing
•Learning lines and rehearsing roles
•Preparing and attending auditions
•Researching, reading material or undertaking activities to help prepare for a role
•Discussing interpretation and delivery with other members of the team and the script writer

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completion of Grade 11 by July 1, 2011 required
• Good knowledge of the Halloween Industry
• Ability to wear a costume (including face mask, face paint, latex and/or make-up)
• Ability to function both independently and in a team environment
• Good communication skills
• Current related experience or education, including a high school drama program
• Ability to work in dark and confined spaces and spend a large part of the workday walking and standing
• Ability to work extended hours and workweeks as required
• Previous theatre background an asset

VFS is currently accepting applications for a full-time position of Teaching Assistant in our Entertainment Business Management Department.

Job Scope:

Reporting to the Department Head and working directly with and in support of the Course Instructor(s), the Teaching Assistant will provide professional, expert and courteous front line educational support to all VFS students within the program he/she is assigned. The Teaching Assistant is able to work with small groups of students on special projects, help the Course Instructor(s) better know the students, and may assist students in utilizing a variety of instructional resources. The Teaching Assistant will have a basic understanding of a particular area of expertise in the program discipline, is highly organized, energetic and is a positive self-starter who thrives in an evolving and fast-paced environment.

Core Responsibilities:

Design

• Design and update slide presentations for Impact Awards and Graduation
• Typeset album covers for compilation album hub project
• Emergency design work for Impact Awards collateral (if student designers fall through.)
• Create lower thirds and title graphics for documentary videos
• Any other misc design work required

Photography

• Take the “making of” still photos for the Compendium project
• General photo doc around the classrooms to capture the essence of “life in EBM”

Clerical

• Assist the Program Manager with general paperwork — filing, photocopying, etc.
• Keep Moodle and course outlines up to date. Alert Senior Instructor Curriculum and Program Manager of any errors or discrepancies.
• Manage the check out and in of the EBM laptops.
• Manage the sign out of books, cameras, and any EBM resources.
• Ensure course evaluations are completed for every class at the end of each term.

Archival

• Collect student documentary photos/video clips each week
• Sort and upload the best photos to the EBM Flickr account weekly, and correctly label/tag.
• Alert marketing of any particularly “good ones” to put on the main VFS site
• Log documentary video footage — uploading from camera, correctly name and folder. Then back up to the redundant system.

Instructor/Student Support

• Train new instructors on the use of moodle
• Assist instructors with the connection to projectors in the classrooms
• Assist with quantitative assignment marking (never qualitative)
• Assist students with technical issues.

Miscellaneous Duties

• Assist with the Impact Awards — as needed and available
• Assist with Compendium hob project — as needed and available
• Procure office supplies as needed
• Procure and set up catering for EBM meetings and events
• Other duties as assigned by the Head of Entertainment Business Management and/or the Program Manager

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:

• Proficiency with InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint/Keynote, Excel, Moodle
• Detail oriented — able to absorb large volumes of information and follow instructions.
• Personable — Generally positive attitude in the face of stress, and patient with students.
• Able to work unsupervised for long periods of time once given a set of standing instructions — while still understanding when to ask for help and get approvals.
• Valid BC Drivers License.

• Foodsafe ticket.
• Filmset etiquette training.
• First aid ticket.
• Any event planning experience.
• Any project management experience.
• Working knowledge or better of Premier, After Effects, or any sound/video editing software.

Assist the studio Producer in day to day operations.
Office management
Communicate with multiple departments within VFX pipeline and support staff.
Assist International Production Management staff in Los Angeles with travel schedules, hotel and extended stays.
Assist in setting up new hires.
Assist Producer with building issues.
Report departmental and show status to the producer and managers.

Must be flexible and willing to take up any task that is needed as needed to get setup. ie: help put together desks and workstations, create welcome packets for visitors, scheduling, etc.

REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

Must be detail oriented, highly motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with challenging deadlines.
Knowledge of Vancouver and surrounding areas.
Must be experienced in Microsoft Office.
Working knowledge of computer set up.

At least six months experience in Feature Film Production. Visual Effects Production would be preferred, but not required.
