Senior Buyer (Vancouver, BC)

Working in a dynamic and fast paced environment and Reporting to the Director of Operations the Senior Buyer will be will be responsible for supporting and providing direction to the Materials Team to ensure department objectives and company goals are being met.
Responsibilities
• Buying based on a group of materials, from suppliers, while matching sales requirements
• Support and provide direction to the Materials Team
Select, motivate, train and ensure development of a competent departmental staff which will ensure the goals and objectives of the department and company are met in a timely and cost efficient manner.
• Develop and implement processes, policies and procedures.
• Be proactive in identifying potential shortages, take appropriate action and communicate them to senior Management.
• Responsibilities for logistics and customs policies and regulations and to work with suppliers to minimize the cost impact of incoming freight, duties and brokerage costs.
• Responsible for supplier on time delivery and ensure un-interrupted supply of materials to meet requirements and tackle supplier related performance issues.
• Responsible for uninterrupted supply of intercompany material transfers at all stocking locations.
• Resolve invoicing discrepancies and supplier payment issues with suppliers and applicable departments.
• Provide financial investment requires based on sales forecasts.
• Manage inventory velocity through monitoring inventory levels to improve efficiency of material flow (inventory turns, freight cost, and space constraints).
• Oversee maintenance and data integrity of MRP/DRP database.
• Develop, implement and communicate as required meaningful KPI's to help improve business.
• Will direct the timely and accurate preparation of various reports as required and determined by senior management.
• Develop strategies to drive initiatives and obtain maximum results.
• Strategic sourcing and negotiations for supply agreements.
• Identify areas of cost improvement opportunities and negotiate cost savings.
• Create and manage project plans.
• Work closely with other departments
• Assist in development and execution of sales forecasts
• Oversee the management of a select group of products including maintaining purchase order delivery information with suppliers both manually and in the Material Resource Planning (MRP/DRP) database.
• Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
• Preferred affiliations/accreditations: APICS/CPIM, PMAC/CPP, MBA.
• 5-10 years management experience in Purchasing and Materials Management in an MRP/DRP environment.
• Proven experience in Global Low Cost Sourcing
• Strong analytical, negotiation and proven project management skills.
• Good understanding of customs and logistics
• Demonstrated computer skills in MS Office applications including MS Project, Power Point, Excel, Access and Word.
• Demonstrated capability to find, and develop new sources and technology.
• Proven leadership, communication and team building skills.
• Familiarity with JIT and inventory management systems (i.e. Kanban)
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work
• Proficient in English both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate in Mandarin both verbally and in writing an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative in areas of importance.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently within established policies and procedures.
• Demonstrated negotiation skills.
• Good presentation skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel globally as required.
