GIS Specialist 1 (Surrey, BC)

Reporting to the GIS Manager, the GIS Specialist 1 is responsible for the maintenance of geospatial data, as well as, the design and creation of digital products (maps, displays, and reports etc. . .). You will use GIS and other applicable software to maintain spatial and attribute data including the initial entry, review, revision and quality control of data (primarily from as-built drawings); design and create maps, plans, drawings, presentation material, documents, databases and other digital products utilizing GIS knowledge and skills; assist with identifying data issues and anomalies and strategies to correct them and receive, evaluate and integrate data received from external agencies.
The successful candidate will understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions; demonstrate self-motivation; have the ability to work independently and efficiently with strong service orientation and use of imaginative abstract reasoning; be familiar with various GIS and CAD file formats and effectively communicate both orally and in writing, including complex technical information.
You will have a Bachelor's degree in an acceptable related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, plus 1 year of directly related and relevant experience; OR, Diploma in an acceptable related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, plus 3 years of directly related and relevant experience; OR, Technical courses in the field plus 5 years of directly related and relevant experience. Municipal combined with as-built drawing interpretation experience is a strong asset.
