Part-Time -- STV Counsellor
Grid Level 14: Wage Range: $21.38 -- $25.14
Department: Women's Counselling
Position Summary: to provide clients with individual and group counselling to address issues related to their trauma and abuse. Responsibilities will also include conducting community information/education sessions and other necessary duties as required.
Reports to: Program Director or designate
If you have the following skills, attributes and qualifications we would like to hear from you:
• Knowledge and understanding of the cycle of violence and it's effect on the family;
• Demonstrated knowledge of assessment techniques;
• Knowledge of group processes and facilitation techniques; grief and crisis intervention training an asset.
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and compassionately with clients;
• Ability to be non-judgmental, open, and accepting; as well as being able to develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and the community;
• Experience working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds;
• Possess well-honed verbal and written communication skills;
• Ability to organize and prioritize work effectively;
• Ability to work with minimum supervision but to work effectively in a team setting;
• Knowledge of the local resources.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, Nursing or a counselling certificate from a recognized program plus three years experience working with women who have experienced abuse, or equivalent education;
• Specialized training in counselling survivors of childhood sexual abuse and group processes;
• Specialized training in violence in the family from a recognized program.
Prerequisites to Employment:
• Valid Driver's License and available vehicle.
• Criminal Record Check required.
• Valid CPR certificate.
