Position:
deviantART is looking to hire a talented software engineer to join our search and infrastructure team based in our Vancouver, BC office. You will get to work on exciting projects ranging from developing new technologies for searching and indexing massive databases of imagery to creating tools that recommend personalized art feeds. Responsibilities: – With a focus on operations: Participate in the design, development, deployment and ongoing management, troubleshooting, automation and monitoring of core backend infrastructure that form the foundation of deviantART production search, recommendation and personalization engines
and other backend systems – Ownership of back-end systems built by the Application Infrastructure group. – Ownership of the back-end and continuous integration and deployment systems. – Understand design, implementation, configuration and operation of all software components that form a complete end-to-end system

Your Background: – Ability to understand, debug software written in the following languages: C++, Java, PHP – Must have experience in coding and debugging in one or more scripting languages: PHP, Shell, Python, Perl, Ruby – Experience with build, deployment, and operations of software based on following toolsets a plus: Solr, Lucene, Hadoop/HBase/Pig, Scribe, Redis, MySQL, Memcached – Strong Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, ideally with working with very large data stores – Experience with systems architectures, filesystems, distributed systems. Experience building, configuring, maintaining and monitoring specialized *nix services and daemons – Experience with building “.deb” packages, operating Puppet or other configuration system a plus. – Proven ability to rapidly learn new systems and unfamiliar technologies – We enjoy looking at code samples.
