Payroll Specialist (Vancouver, BC)

Retirement Concepts is a family owned private company based in Vancouver, BC, that provides seniors housing and care services ranging from Retirement Living, Assisted Living Services and Skilled Nursing Care throughout the Province. We are the largest private owner/operator of seniors' homes in British Columbia, with 18 facilities currently in our portfolio.
We are now recruiting an additional Payroll Specialist to join the payroll team, located at our downtown Vancouver Head Office.
Working under the direction of the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist is responsible for the daily management of the accurate, timely and confidential preparation and distribution of the facilities' payroll and assists in the preparation of all month end and year end related reporting.
DUTIES:
1. Ensure payroll procedures are in compliance with HRDC, CRA, other regulatory bodies, and
2. the applicable collective agreements.
3. Verify payroll each pay period to ensure transactions have been processed accurately
4. Ensure processing of appropriate deductions, remittances and reporting requirements for deductions
5. and benefits as required by legislation, collective agreements & company policies are met
6. Reconcile payroll source deductions for T4 purposes
7. Process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll using ADPs 'Premier Performance Pack'
8. Products (Pay@Work, People@Work and EZLabor).
9. Provide advice, guidance and assistance to staff on all benefit related issues/questions
10. Oversee the administration of the ADP system, changes to calculations, employee setup and G/L
11. mapping
12. Prepare payroll journal entries and submit to Finance on a timely basis
13. Prepare payroll reports using ADP's Reportsmith
14. Oversee benefit and RSP programs
15. Review and reconcile monthly benefit statements from insurance carriers
16. Respond to enquiries as required and provide support to the facilities in processing payroll
17. Other duties as assigned.
KEY MEASUREMENTS:
1. Minimal processing errors
2. Quick and accurate responses to questions raised by facilities or Head Office staff
3. Timely completion of work in advance of pay dates and deadlines
4. Proficiency in ADP and ability to develop and generate reports as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Completion of CPA Level II preferred, but not mandatory
2. 3 to 5 years experience in payroll and benefits administration, preferably in a multi-site environment.
3. Proficient in payroll applications (ADP 'Premier Performance Pack', including Pay@Work, preferred)
4. Related experience and a working knowledge of general accounting practices
5. Sound knowledge of payroll laws & regulations
6. Experience in benefits administration preferred
7. Proficient in MS Office, with advanced Excel skills
8. Payroll experience in a unionized environment is a definite asset
9. Strong organizational, problem solving, decision making and communication skills
10. Ability to exercise a high level of professionalism and discretion with confidential information
11. Highly developed time management skills
12. Must be a team player.
