Purpose:
Working within a community development framework, the Volunteer Intake and Support Facilitator will be responsible for supporting key activities for the promotion and support of volunteers in the Neighbourhood House. The Project's goal is to facilitate the development of a volunteer orientation and development program, together with the translation and placement of multi-lingual signage in and around our Neighbourhood House. The project will also aim to nurture, enhance and develop local capacity and skills of volunteers and members who require greater encouragement and support to participate.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Diploma in a related human/social service field (e.g., community development, volunteer management, recreation, social work, etc.)
• One year recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
• Knowledge and applied skills in project development and implementation, including: issues family dynamics, immigration, aging and youth, group facilitation, and community engagement.
• Proven ability to facilitate groups or organize activities / events
• Experience working with other service providers in an integrated service model.
• At least 2 years experience working within non-profit agencies, including diverse groups of clients.
• Demonstrated ability to comply with policies and procedures regarding confidentiality, privacy, reporting and record keeping.
• Knowledge of community resources and best practices available for newcomer and immigrant families, youth and seniors.
• Class 4 drivers license is an asset
• Criminal Record Check
• Preference given to those with the ability to speak a second language (preferably Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese or Tagalog)
Terms: 10 hours per week, contract to the end of March 2012.
Position start date: October 10, 2011.
