Job Summary
The Counsellor provides support, education, information, advocacy and counselling to children between the ages of 3 and 18 who have experienced or witnessed domestic violence and their non-abusive caregivers in both individual and group settings. The counsellor provides community education regarding relational abuse and program services. This position requires Union membership. Job description available upon request
Start Date: October 17, 2011
Minimum Qualifications
Education: A suitable combination of relevant post-secondary education, training and experience working in the anti-violence field, particularly as it relates to children and youth. Children Who Witness Abuse Workshop Training is a definite asset.
Experience: Two years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience working with children/women from abusive homes. Understanding of child development
Personal: Feminist, anti-oppression perspective, organized, empathic, reflective with an ability to work independently, good conflict resolution skills. Verbal and written fluency in English is a requirement. Verbal and written fluency in an additional language is an asset.
Salary Range: Paraprofessional Wage Grid Level 13 - $20.76 - $24.43
Hours: 15 hours per week, flexible to meet program needs
Location: Ishtar Transition Housing Society
