Capacity Planning Engineer (DemonWare / Activision) (Vancouver, Canada)

Capacity, Scaling and Infrastructure Group
Demonware's infrastructure consists of over 1,300 servers, 28 Gbps of bandwidth and 60 racks in three separate hosting facilities. Our services respond to over 100 billion API calls from gamers playing Activision's titles every single month. We are looking for exceptional candidates to help manage the growth of these services and the efficient utilisation of our resources.
Demonware's Capacity, Scaling and Infrastructure Group has three broad responsibilities:
• To manage the design and build out of our datacenter facilities and networks.
• Using data captured from both experiments and live systems, to build capacity models which allows us to order the optimum combination of hardware specifications and quantities.
• To ensure that existing and future resources are utilised optimally and to provide troubleshooting expertise and advice on software and hardware scaling issues.
Responsibilities of Capacity Planning Engineer:
• Design & development of a suite of capacity planning tools for our online services
• Capacity utilisation reporting and forecasting for use in budgetary processes
• Service capacity reviews and scale-back planning
• Working with developers and the rest of our operations team to build capacity models for new services and features
• Working with our tools teams to build better predictive alerting and visualisation systems
• Identification of capacity problems before they happen
Essential Requirements:
• Degree in Computer Science related topic
• 2+ years experience working in data-centric software engineering or operational roles
• In-depth understanding of typical problems encountered in large transactional systems
• Proficient in a scripting language + SQL, Python & MySQL preferred
• Software design experience
• Proven analytical and planning skills
• Experience working with UNIX variant Operating Systems
Desired experience:
• Excel (or similar) power user
• Experience working with Matlab or R
