Software Engineer, Elastic Compute Cloud Security (Seattle, WA)

Amazon EC2 (AWS Elastic Compute Cloud) enables the global deployment and execution of thousands of customer applications across tens of thousands of servers worldwide. The EC2 Security team is actively recruiting software developers (SDE) with passion for developing Internet-based services on a massive scale.
The tremendous growth of EC2 over the last few years created huge challenges as well as opportunities in the cloud security space. The EC2 Security team is tasked to develop the software to protect EC2 system and our customers from any and all threats.
Role Responsibilities
- Develop security software and services to protect EC2 network and infrastructure, including auto detecting potential intrusions, enforcing security policies/compliance, creating shared security components across the massive and distributed EC2 network. Your work will interact with all layers of EC2 infrastructure components, including virtualization, networking, capacity, API, and anything in between. Your solutions will be challenged by constant demands for high scalability and reliability.
- Create the processing tools and auto detection technologies to mitigate abuse activities, such as botnet, DDOS, spamming. You will need to be extremely agile in response to new threat and abuse patterns, coming up with innovative prototypes and solutions in the shortest amount of time. Your solutions will leverage large array of toolsets, including Java, Ruby, MySql, web UI, other open source packages, as well as AWS cloud solutions. At our scale of large number of customers and resources, you will need to put strong focus on automation to counter the evolving malicious activities.
- Improve EC2 security service offerings to help our customers to protect their applications against attacks from the cloud. You will have the opportunity to work with world class security experts, both internal and external to amazon, to define and develop the tools and solutions to enable EC2 customers to secure their EC2 instances. Your services will be leveraged by thousands of EC2 customers to raise the bar for cloud security.
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced software engineer with interest on cloud security and a proven track record of architecting and building high quality scalable applications and solutions.
- BS in Computer Science or related field
- Minimum of 3 years programming experience in C++ and/or Java
- MS or higher in Computer Science or related field
- Security knowledge and interest
- Solid system design and architecture experience
- Good knowledge in internet and operating system security fundamentals
- Experience with virtualization
- Knowledge in network routing protocols is a plus
- Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills
- Strong desire to build, sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
- Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast paced environment
