Since early 2006, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has provided companies of all sizes with an infrastructure web services platform in the cloud. With AWS you can requisition compute power, storage, and other services-gaining access to a suite of elastic IT infrastructure services as your business demands them. The AWS Security team is responsible for the security and availability of all of the services offered by AWS, including EC2, S3, and others. Our team works with the service teams to solve security challenges at massive scale, and builds tools to automate the auditing and operation of AWS infrastructure.
AWS Security is looking for Senior Application Security Engineers to ensure that our services, applications, and websites are designed and implemented to the highest standards. If you enjoy analyzing the security of applications and services, discovering and addressing security issues, and quickly reacting to new threat scenarios, this position will provide you with a challenging opportunity.
Key tasks include:
- Anticipate and understand security risks to Amazon's AWS business
- Prioritize security risk management opportunities and provide guidance to senior leadership
- Architect comprehensive strategic designs for relevant problems, specifically to mitigate riskWork cooperatively with engineers to ensure that security needs are met in their designs
- Share architectural and technical guidance with AWS software and systems team while maintaining a thorough understanding of all AWS services
- Partner with development teams to carry out Application Security Reviews
- Provide expert advice and consultancy to internal customers on risk assessment, threat modeling and fixing vulnerabilities
- Evangelize security within AWS and be an advocate for customer trust
- Develop training materials for general security awareness and specific security technology training
The ideal candidate is clearly passionate about solving security problems in innovative ways. This person thrives and succeeds in analyzing the security of applications and services, discovering and addressing security issues and quickly reacting to new threat scenarios. He or she should be comfortable delivering high quality security expertise in a hyper-growth environment with quickly shifting priorities. The ideal candidate has broad and deep technical security knowledge - typically spanning it's application throughout the SDLC process. He or she has security experience, strong knowledge of web protocols, vast experience with authentication and cryptography, and anin-depth knowledge of Linux/Unix tools and architecture. Experience with web-based applications and/or web services-based applications - especially at massive scale - are very applicable and helpful.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with any combinations of the following: threat modeling experience, secure coding, identity management and authentication, software development, cryptography, system and network security
Ability to mentor/train Engineers on complex technical issues
Technical knowledge in system and network security
Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals with a solutions based, innovative approach
Experience building scalable infrastructure software or distributed systems
Excellent technical and business acumen
Possess self-drive to keep moving things forward even in the face of ambiguity and imperfect knowledge (avoid "analysis paralysis")
Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive
Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills
