The Fraserside Community Services Society invites applications for the following position:

Job Title: CHILD AND FAMILY COUNSELLOR
Program: CHILDREN WHO WITNESS ABUSE
Classification: GRID LEVEL 16 - CLINICAL COUNSELLOR
Rate of Pay: $28.22 per hour (0-2000 hrs); and increments in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement


A) OVERALL JOB FUNCTION: To participate as a team member in the operation of the Children Who Witness Abuse Program. Using a feminist perspective, to provide assessment, referral, individual and group counselling support services to children who have witnessed abuse in the home. Other duties may include representation on various community committees, community presentations and special related projects.

B) DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (high school, university, college degrees): Graduate degree or equivalent in related field (equivalency is defined as an undergraduate degree in a related field plus a minimum of two years experience working with children). Skilled in communication, organization and establishing collaborative working relationships with others. Willingness to work flexible hours in a variety of settings.

2. OTHER SPECIAL TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS (special courses, certificates, etc.): Training/workshops for children who have witnessed abuse • Core foundation child support worker training program • Group facilitation training • Additional training in art or play therapy • NVCI certificate • Working knowledge of Windows operating system and MS Word

3. EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience with Program Development and Implementation • Experience working with abused women and their children • At least two years experience with counselling and support programs for children ages 3-18 years • Experience in the Social Service field

4. OTHER EXPECTATIONS: Outstanding interpersonal skills • Ability to work independently and flexibly within a strong team setting • Liaison with other community and government agencies • To contribute to the development of a warm and supportive environment for clients • To maintain accurate files and statistics

C) PRESENT HOURS OF WORK: 10.0 hours per week. Work hours are based on a flextime schedule as authorized by the employer to meet program needs.
