Our primary goal is to increase public awareness and informed participation in Canadian media, cultural, information, and telecommunication policy formation. We strive to make media and telecommunications more transparent, with broader and more representative public participation. Our job is to shine a spotlight on key media policy developments, and provide essential tools and information for citizen engagement.
As an organization, OpenMedia.ca is at a crucial point in its development. We are looking for a talented or up-and-coming web developer willing to help develop and manage our flourishing advocacy website.
Position Description
PHP/Drupal Developer
Works directly with:
Communications Manager
Executive Director
2-3 Volunteer Developers
Overall Responsibility
The PHP/Drupal Developer works with the Communications Manager, the Executive Director, and any volunteer developers to develop and deploy online tools, to maintain and improve the OpenMedia.ca website, and to liaise with hosts to implement performance optimizations. The PHP/Drupal Developer is primarily responsible for Drupal development projects, and helping to identify and remedy any technological limitations.
Duties
Providing effort estimates; communicating the progress of projects. Website testing and bug fixing. Providing technical leadership, consultation, research, technical planning, development and administration of websites. Developing recommendations and implementing strategies to increase website profile. Manage web development projects. Liaison and coordinate development volunteers/community.Qualifications
Experience with Drupal, including a solid understanding of the framework, design and implementation of modules and general site maintenance, coding best-practices, resources and the Drupal community. Substantive PHP programming knowledge. Experience with MySQL database development. Experience with jQuery/JavaScript & AJAX techniques. Fluent in HTML and CSS. Able to work collaboratively with other developers. Understanding of best practices for web-based architecture, design, and SEO-friendly code.Assets
Experience with cross-site integration using JSON/JSONP & XML. Fluent in HTML5 and CSS3. A complete understanding of the LAMP technology stack. Experience with website caching techniques. A good sense of design aesthetics and usability, and a creative side with Adobe CS (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) experience. Experience with other CMS’s such as WordPress. Experience with web development collaboration and volunteer management.You must have your own laptop and software licenses.

One-year contract beginning August 29th with a three-month probationary period. Part-time (approximately 15 hours/week; must have flexible availability) with good possibility of promotion to full-time. $1500 per month with bonus based on performance.
