About the MCC BC Thrift Shops
There are nine MCC Thrift Shops in BC and they are a vital part of our ministry. The Thrift Shops sell donated clothing, books, furniture and other items in order to raise income for the ministry of MCC BC. The shop is a ministry in and of itself, providing low cost goods to people in our community as well as providing international and local aid. Thrift Shops also make a valuable contribution to good stewardship and a healthy environment by recycling items that might otherwise be thrown away. They also provide a sense of community to volunteers and the people we serve through social interaction in a caring environment.
About the Position
The assistant manager will be responsible to the manager and shop committee. The job includes maintaining organization of shop workroom including; flow of items to be priced, recycling, receiving, redistributing items to the furniture area, and organizing storage areas, and includes lifting and moving of heavy objects of up to 50 pounds. Knowledge of MS Office Suite, Internet, and E-mail required.
This position also includes assisting customers, organizing displays, assisting in training volunteers, as well as assisting in keeping the shop running smoothly and effectively. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, are also a requirement. Retail management experience is a definite asset. This position requires a person who can work to blend the trust our donors place in MCC, the strength of our volunteer base and a strong business focus.
