Family Support Worker
Position Type: One Year Maternity Leave Replacement

Richmond Family Place is looking for an experienced Family Support Worker, 26 hours per week @ $18 p/hr plus 4% vacation, to coordinate, implement and deliver Family Support programs for families with children 0-6 years of age. This is a Tuesday to Friday position, (Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9am – 4pm, Wednesdays 3:15pm – 8:15pm) with occasional additional evening & week-end work required. Contract starts October 1st, 2010
Responsibilities;
• Responsible for the implementation and delivery of family resource programs both on-site and in the satellite locations.
• Provides family support in the family resource drop-in programs including information, education, modeling appropriate behaviour/interactions towards children and stimulating play between caregivers and their children.
• In conjunction with the Program Coordinator develops, coordinates and delivers programs including literacy programs, special events and outdoor play.
• Provides assessment, referral and one to one crisis support for families when needed.
• Maintains and develops good working relationships with community partners/agencies.
• Develops implements, delivers and evaluates parent education workshops and courses.
• Supervises and supports practicum students and volunteers.
• Responsible for maintaining accurate statistics and reports on all family support programs.
Qualifications:
• University degree in a related discipline, Early Childhood Education certificate preferred.
• Extensive experience working with parents/caregivers and their children birth to six years of age and an understanding of child development for the birth to six age range.
• Proven ability to provide crisis support to families and make appropriate referrals.
• Experience implementing and delivering a wide variety of parent education programs.
• Experience working in and promoting a multicultural setting.
• Experience working in community partnerships.
• Good working knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
• Up to date First Aid certificate and Criminal Record Check
• Valid Driver’s license and use of own vehicle.
