Activity Leader (Tsawwassen)

Boys and Girls Club Community Services of Delta/Richmond is seeking a part time (10 hours per week) Activity Leader for our Winskill Boys and Girls Club located in Tsawwassen.
This position is ideal for post secondary students enrolled in Recreation Leadership, Child and Youth Care, Education, or Social Work looking for part time work during the academic year (September to the end of May). Candidates must have experience working with groups of children and/or youth, a valid first aid certificate and a clean criminal record check.
The Activity Leader:
1. Plans, organises and implements recreational, social and/or educational activities and programs designed to meet the needs of the children/youth who visit the club programs.
2. Encourages and facilitates the participation of individuals in the program by creating a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in order to enhance the programs appeal to clients.
3. Maintains up to date knowledge of new trends in activities programming.
4. Maintains awareness of any problems (medical, behavioural or other) experienced by clients and informs the Coordinator.
5. Maintains appropriate records and statistics and ensures all required documentation is accurate and complete (e.g. incident reports, the card systems etc.).
6. Role models appropriate behaviour.
7. Informs the Coordinator of any problems or concerns regarding participants, Jr. Leaders, Volunteers, etc.
8. Ensures that the facility is safe and clean during all activities and that supplies etc are put away after programs.
9. Cooperates and works with the Coordinator in carrying out safety/emergency procedures.
Desired Qualifications for this position includes:
1. Post secondary training/courses in recreation or a related field.
2.Six months of experience working with groups of children in a social recreational setting and in planning activities.
3. Valid First Aid Certificate and CPR Certification.
4. Clean Criminal Record Search (vulnerable sector).
5. Excellent interpersonal behaviour and communication skills.
6. Proven organization and time management skills (must be able to be on time for all shifts).
7. Good written and verbal communication skills.
8. Ability to work independently.
