Activity Leader (Surrey)

Preamble
The Activity Leader will be charged with the responsibility to deliver quality educational, social recreational programs for children and youth 6-18 years of age. The Activity Leader is to provide quality care, role modeling and dynamic programming to increase the self-esteem of each participant. All programs must be designed and led in a safe and developmentally appropriate manner.
General Job Responsibilities
With respect to all Agency Policies and operating procedures the Activity Leader will:
- Participate fully in all training programs
- Provide Club leadership in the absence of the Club Coordinator
- Plan, prepare and lead daily programs based on participant feedback
- Provide programs that promote individual skill development and teamwork
- Complete various other duties as assigned by supervisor(s)
Specific Job Responsibilities
- Know where Club members are at all times
- Get to know each Club member individually and promote their accomplishments and self-esteem
- Plan and deliver special events
- Meet the physical, emotional, social, safety, well-being, first aid and nutritional needs of Club members
- Treat each Club member with respect, care and appropriate role modeling
- Protect and ensure the proper care and use of all program equipment and facilities
- Work with all other staff in a positive, professional and cooperative manner
- Use behavior management techniques outlined in the training sessions
- Assist with the evaluation of programs
- Communicate professionally with parents and Club members
Qualifications
The Boys and Girls Clubs work with children, youth and families from a wide variety of backgrounds and encourage applications from candidates who reflect this diversity.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver are looking for several candidates with the following qualifications:
- Previous experience working with 6-18 year olds in a social-recreational program
- Motivated, enthusiastic, flexible attitude and an ability to work as a team player
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
Class 4 Driver’s License, Lifeguard Certification and a second language would be additional assets.
All successful candidates over the age of 19 years will be required to complete a criminal record check and approximately 40 hours of staff training.
