The Electronics Technician works within a team carrying out preventative and corrective maintenance on Automatic Train Control systems, including mechanical track switches, train detection systems, data transmission systems, fiber optic communications systems & associated equipment, PA systems & associated equipment, emergency telephone systems, radio systems & associated equipment, CCTV & associated equipment, variable message signs, security systems and intrusion detection systems to a high standard of safety and reliability. The Electronics Technician also provides first line maintenance response to help maintain a high quality, safe and efficient transit service. Installs, tests and commissions asset modifications and minor new signaling works as required. Inspects and approve works undertaken by contractors or sub-system suppliers. Recommends and implement measures to improve asset performance.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform first line response to Automatic Train Control and all electronic systems failures.
Respond expeditiously to requests from the Control Room to attend to defects in Automatic Train Control (ATC) equipment, trains, elevators, station electrical and structural equipment, prioritizing work to minimize the effect of failures on System Availability.
Manually drive a passenger train when necessary to correct a defect, or to return a train to the OMC for repair.
Perform planned preventative maintenance plans for ATC & all electronic equipment.
Prioritize work within a shift to minimize unavailability and ensure that planned preventative maintenance is completed in a timely manner.
Ensure that clear and concise records are maintained for all failures on a daily basis, including actions taken and preventative maintenance actions.
Recommend and implement measures to improve asset performance and reduce maintenance costs and/or response times.
Responsible for ensuring working areas, storage areas and duty vehicles are kept in a clean and safe state and that any equipment or materials used are replenished at the earliest opportunity.
Assist with training and assessment for the First Line Response Team.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 2-year technical degree in electronics or communications disciplines.
Minimum 4 years experience in maintaining electronic or communications equipment or similar systems.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and orally. Must be able to communicate clearly and receive dispatches by radio.
Ability to decide on the correct course of action in the event of an asset failure or during routine activities, without further reference to the Electronics Leader or Electronics Supervisor.
Ability to recognize when it is necessary to request advice or assistance.
Required to make rapid decisions when equipment or assets are in an unsafe or failed condition and apply appropriate and immediate restrictions on their use.
Ability to prioritize workload during a shift such that the effect of asset and equipment failures are minimized, scheduled work is completed on time, and accurate records are maintained.
A current BC Class 5 drivers license.
