Motor Pool Dispatcher
OLYMPIC BROADCASTING SERVICES VANCOUVER (OBSV). As a wholly owned subsidiary of Olympic Broadcast Services (a management company set up by the IOC) OBSV was created to serve as the host broadcaster for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. As host broadcaster, OBSV is responsible for producing and distributing the unbiased radio and television coverage for the Olympic Winter Games. In conjunction with this coverage, OBSV also provides various facilities and services to international broadcasting companies which are commonly referred to as the Rights Holding Broadcasters.
Job Description
The Motor Pool Dispatcher will coordinate OBSV fleet vehicles and OBSV drivers. The dispatcher will coordinate the flow of motor pool vehicles entering and leaving the motor pool depot. Reporting to the Transportation Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Assign drivers to specific services, vehicles, and ensure that vehicles leave the depot on schedule
• Stay in touch with drivers on the road, communicating by phone, computer, or two-way radio, answering questions and solving problems, including finding the best routes to avoid traffic jams
• Keep control boards that indicate drivers’ progress along routes up to date
• Assist in the development and oversight of the OBSV Motor pool operations
• Supervise the OBSV motor pool and create motor pool vehicle inventory, distribution, recovery and control operations plan
• Help organize OBSV drivers’ orientation and training sessions
• Supervise motor pool staff
• Understand OBSV Media Transportation Shuttle Schedules and OBSV Transport requirements and schedules
• Assist with OBSV Games time parking control and venue access issues
Knowledge/Skills
• Works well under pressure and in a demanding working schedule
• Responds to service demands or emergencies, quickly and efficiently
• Good geographical knowledge of local and surrounding areas
• Ability to multi-task, coordinate, and fulfill manual processes
• Ability to observe situations analytically and objectively and relay details accurately
• Ability to communicate using two-way radio and telephone equipment and to operate a variety of communications equipment efficiently
• Ability to read and interpret maps
• Ability to establish and maintain effective workplace relationships
• Consistently meets attendance schedule
• Familiar with federal and provincial driving regulations, Olympic procedures, and company operations
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
• Excellent proficiency in the English Language, second Language (i.e. French, Italian) is an asset
o Speaks clearly and concisely
• Ability to drive large vehicles (mini-vans 8-passenger, large sedans, etc) is mandatory
Qualifications/Relevant Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Three to four years of multi-sport events experience or previous Olympic Ground Transport experience
• Two to three years of on-the-job logistics experience required
• Previous experience in creating weekly shift schedules in workplaces with over ten employees
• Previous experience in transportation management, motor pool management, vehicle inventory and radio dispatch
• Valid BC drivers licence
