Camp Potlatch - Cabin Leader (Howe Sound)

Camp Potlatch, owned and operated by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver, is a wilderness based residential summer camp located in the Howe Sound, for children between the ages of 7 and 16. Camp Potlatch has been in operation for 60 years with the philosophy of providing quality summer experiences to children from low-income families. Successful candidates will require a criminal record search and reference checks.
EDUCATION:
Preference will be given to applicants currently pursuing or recently completed their post secondary education. Fields of study recommended for this position are: education, recreation, physical education, social work, or forestry.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be mature and demonstrate:
• effective communication and teaching skills.
• responsible and mature attitude.
• self-motivation and problem solving abilities.
• ability to work independently and make responsible decisions.
• prior work experience with youth between 7 -16 years.
• personal experience, certifications, and outdoor courses are an asset.
JOB DUTIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and leadership of 6-7 day outdoor programs to cabin groups of 8 - 10 children in a wilderness residential environment.
POSITION:
The position commitment is tentative June 15th to September 3, 2009
WAGE:
Competitive industry wage plus all transportation to and from camp, meals, and accommodations while at the camp. Flexibility in the work week is required.
