Full-time (35 hours per week) position starting immediately through to
November 7, 2010 with a possibility of extension
An Employment Assistance Program funded by Ministry of Housing and Social Development (MHSD)
Position Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Project Manager and consistent with the Program’s mandate, ISS policies and MHSD guidelines provides case management services, client assessment counselling, and training information referrals to unemployed clients who have limited proficiency in English or need services in Cantonese or Mandarin. Facilitates the development of a realistic action plan for the re-employment of the client. Monitors clients’ progress and provides follow-up counselling and support until the action plan is completed. Provides clients with employment assistance in a group or individualized setting as needed.
Requirements:
• Post-secondary training and/or 1 year experience in employment/career counselling with emphasis on needs assessment;
• Strong knowledge of local labour market issues, especially those related to the ESL immigrant/refugee situation;
• Familiar with community resources and services;
• Fluent in English, and Cantonese or Mandarin, (proficiency in both languages an assets);
• Strong interpersonal communication and negotiating skills to deal with people from diverse backgrounds and at various levels of the organization;
• Proficient in computer word processing (Windows preferred), and experience in using database programs (Contact IV preferred);
• Client-centered, service-oriented and a team player; and,
• Track record of meeting assigned goals with minimal supervision.
