Assistant House Coordinator (Burnaby)

Abbeyfield Burnaby seeks a mature individual as an Assistant House Coordinator in a 20-unit, non-smoking seniors residence. The candidate will be a live-in residential care worker with the special ability of being able to communicate with older people. Under the direction of the House Coordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for both the physical maintenance of the building and for the well-being of the residents.
The successful applicant will earn $27,000 annually ($15 per hour), plus a rent-free one-bedroom apartment with deck and off-street parking on-site. A spouse, or one child, would be welcome to join the successful applicant.
The biweekly schedule for this position is a 35-hour work week over 7 calendar days out of every 14, plus on-call availability during the night on each of those calendar days.

Job Description:
Maintains Abbeyfield house and property: painting, lawn care, minor repairs, handles garbage and recycling
Maintains records of property management procedures
Oversees cleaning and maintenance contracts
Coordinates work on house and yard done by volunteers and contractors
Specific responsibilities each duty day:
Setting and disarming alarm systems
Checking on wellbeing of residents twice daily
Assisting with the serving and cleanup of lunch and dinner
Preparing specific items for residents to use for breakfasts
Responding to emergencies
Qualifications:
Experience in property management including janitorial tasks and overseeing trades people
Excellent communication skills, with special attention to relating to older people and to conflict resolution
Demonstrated ability to work with others, including volunteers
Demonstrated ability to manage time and balance several competing tasks
High school graduation or equivalent
Commitment to the beliefs and guiding principles of the Abbeyfield concept
