Infant Development Consultant - Maternity Leave (Tri-Cities)

The Simon Fraser Society for Community Living has openings for a short term* full time Consultant position within our Infant Development Program through to December 2009. The Consultant will support families who have a child with a developmental delay, diagnosed disability or who are at-risk for a developmental delay as part of a home-based, early intervention service. In collaboration with families, they will develop an Individual Support Plan which will encourage the child’s development within the context of their daily routines and resources. Within a family-centred model, the Consultant will assist families in acquiring information about child development and community resources as it pertains to their child and family. This service will be delivered as described in the Provincial Manual for Infant Development Programs.
Summary of Qualifications:
A 4 year degree from a university or college of recognized standing in a field related to early childhood development (e.g. education, psychology, child and youth care, therapy, social work). An Infant Development Diploma or Certificate is preferred. Enrolment in/completion of the Infant Development/Supported Child Care Consultant Certificate or Diploma may be required as part of ongoing professional development.
Minimum three years experience working with and facilitating a process of individual planning and service coordination for families of children with developmental delays and disabilities. A high level of understanding with regard to child development and the impact of disability and delay on growth and development.
Demonstrated understanding of core issues related to life long disability/community living and ability to support families in addressing those issues within a family-centred/directed model.
Demonstrated practical experience in exercising independent judgment and initiative. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal, including record keeping, reporting, presentation and public speaking) and ability to work as an effective team member.
Knowledge of and experience working with community agencies and government systems and services, including the health system and the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Experience in establishing relationships and working collaboratively with community members and related organizations. Experience working with infants and children with developmental delays within a consulting home visiting model is preferred.
Terms of Employment:
Short Term Full Time Positions – (37.5 hours per week, flex-time) due to maternity leave
Satisfactory criminal record check
Valid BC Drivers license and use of personal vehicle
Union membership with BCGEU
Salary of $22.90 to $26.94 per hour (Paraprofessional Grid Level 14)
