Position: Day Program Supervisor- Avenues
Classification: Exempt
Hours: 37.5 Hours Weekly

Purpose: The supervisor is required to provide leadership, direction, management and modeling to a diverse program and staff team. The supervisor ensures that the society philosophy is upheld. The supervisor is also responsible to monitor all aspects of the service provided in the program, including; financial, staffing quality, morale, safety, and consistency. The supervisor is responsible in ensuring that all individuals with developmental disabilities are supported by the team in a dignified and caring way that leads to the greatest independence for the individuals involved.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
•Oversees the day to day operations of assigned programs.
•Develops implements, coordinates and evaluates plans and programs designed to ensure that clients’ needs are met. Ensures that program standards, guidelines, and policies of the organization are maintained, and that all licensing requirements are met (if applicable).
•Supervises and evaluates program staff’s work. Coordinates and schedules program staff. Participates in conflict resolution amongst staff. Assists in such personnel activities such as interviewing, hiring, training staff, and staff discipline issues.
•Mentors the staff in aspects of leadership. Develops an effective and coordinated working relationship.
•Supervises and supports volunteers and practicum students.
•Chairs or facilitates staff meetings..
•Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to support and maintain programs.
•Supervises expenditures within the existing budget allowance and makes budget recommendations.
•Ensures that accurate program and client records (ie. Data for individual programs and case recording) are maintained and that confidentiality is a priority. Ensures that all pertinent documentation is complete.
•Develops and maintains relationships with each client in their program based on mutual respect, trust, and celebration of each person gifts, talents, and unique contributions.
•May work as a front line service deliverer in the programs such as: performing assessments;, developing action or case plans; coordinating the placement of clients to the appropriate programs; counseling, training, an evaluating performance and progress of clients.
•Ensure effective communication with staff and families. Maintains an effective relationship with government officials and volunteer community groups. Maintains liaison with other community organizations to coordinate provision of services, resolve program delivery, exchange program information, or provide instruction on the operation and use of the assigned programs. May represent the Society at community events. Conducts special studies, makes presentation and maintains a current awareness of developments in assigned area of responsibility.
•Strives to maintain a current awareness of best practices in the community living sector and participates actively in both professional evaluation and professional development.
•Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications Education, Training and Experience
A degree/diploma in a related field is preferred, along with a minimum 2 years recent experience as a supervisor. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Job Skills and Abilities:
•Excellent oral and written communication skills
•Excellent interpersonal behaviour and communication skills including motivation, mediation, and cooperation
•Thorough knowledge of theory, principles and practices of the community living sector
•Proven ability to provide leadership to a team
•Demonstrated high quality support skills and the ability to coach and mentor the same
•Excellent organization, time and general management skills
•Demonstrated aptitude and willingness to participate in the management of the organization
•Knowledge of group process and facilitation skills
•Thorough knowledge of program issues
•Interviewing and assessment skills. Problem solving skills
•Comfort level operating word processing software and producing basic documents.

Addition Information and Requirements:
Criminal Record Check, First Aid Certificate, TB Test, Valid BC Driver’s License/Access to Vehicle are required.
The incumbent must be able to work a flexible schedule and share responsibility for the agency’s 24 hour emergency on-call system. .
