Summer Youth Canoe Club Leader – Temporary Full Time
JOB OVERVIEW
The Renfrew Collingwood Aboriginal Youth Canoe Club is a youth led program that offers Aboriginal youth opportunities to participate in traditional canoeing practices in the large northern dancer canoes. The program offers healthy, outdoor activities, building canoe and water safety skills, increasing cultural knowledge and canoe protocols as well as encouraging positive engagement with Aboriginal youth and role models. Through these activities the focus is on Aboriginal youth between the ages of 10 to 29. The Program Leader will be responsible for the developmental support, organization, implementation and leadership of this program under the supervision of the Canoe Club Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Enrollment in post-secondary education, degree or diploma in social services, recreation or related field
· 2-3 years experience in direct service work with youth
· Experience in development and implementation of youth programs
· Experience in supervising and working with volunteers
· Experience in youth advocacy and knowledge of resources and services
· Strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership and communication skills
· Strong understanding and awareness of youth issues, and how to create a safe space for youth
· Ability to work in a multicultural environment
· Ability to work cooperatively in a non-profit and volunteer based organization
· Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
· Valid First Aid and CPR certificate an asset
· Satisfactory Criminal Record Search
