GORDON HOUSE YOUTH S.E.A.R.Ch.
Overview: These positions arise from the Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance new employment strategy to provide a community based, coordinated response to long term unemployed members of Welfare.
Position Description: We are looking for one energetic, flexible, self motivated candidate who has an awareness of the issues that face youth who have extreme barriers to employment.
The following duties are:
• Primarily provide honest, respectful client centred care and develop trusting alliances with participants
• Conduct intake interviews and determines needs assessment.
• Provide one-on-one counselling to assist youth with establishing an individualized service plan supports progress in reaching goals and addresses concerns both in relation to employment barriers and personal life.
• Prepare reports and document daily activity.
• Respond to crisis and counsels/refers through advising as to supports in the community.
• Provides community outreach services and advocates for participants.
• Able to work collaboratively and as a member of a team
• Able to participate in, and has a practical understanding of, integrated case planning.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree in related field or a minimum of three years of experience as an employment/career counsellor
• Previous experience working with youth in a social services setting
• Knowledge of the issues facing high risk youth
• Proven strengths around communication and conflict resolution
• Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle a must; Class 4 license an asset
• Successful criminal record check
Start Date: July 1, 2009
Rate of Pay: Market Rated
Hours of Work: 35 hours/week Mon-Fri
