Human Resources and Health & Safety Assistant:

Hays Human Resources is urgently seeking an experienced HR Assistant with a background in Health & Safety to work with our client based in Coquitlam.

This is a full-time, permanent opportunity to grow in an HR capacity and to work closely with the HR Manager of this exciting organization. You will have the opportunity to develop your Human Resources skills and be exposed to the Health & Safety issues of a large manufacturing facility.

Specific responsibilities include:

HUMAN RESOURCES ¡V

„X Orientation of new temporary employees.
„X Coordinating safety shoe entitlements and reimbursements.
„X Coordinating annual years of service program.
„X Answering employees questions regarding benefits.
„X Preparing employment letters.
„X Entering employee information into HRIS.
„X Assist with preparation for negotiations.
„X Chair social committee meetings and organize events.
„X Filing.
„X Ensure authorization forms are completed for any employment related changes, process and liaise with payroll.
„X Prepare Headcount and FTE reports.
„X Demonstrate safe work practices and follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.

HEALTH & SAFETY ¡V

„X Perform an internal audit of the health and safety system to ensure programs meet the requirements of the company and applicable legislation and regulations.
„X Arrange for testing of employees and potential employees, i.e., pre-employment medicals, back assessments, hearing testing.
„X Member of Emergency Response Team.
„X Arrange for first aid training and manage the program.
„X Distribute personal protective equipment and train employees accordingly.
„X Develop and implement Health and Safety programs and policies.
„X Representative on the monthly Health and Safety meeting and prepares agenda, minutes and monthly inspections.
„X Assist supervisors with accident investigations.
„X Complete monthly corporate reports (recordable injury, scoreboard, etc.)
„X Assist department managers with the establishment of Health and Safety Goals on a yearly basis.
„X Research and communicate changes in legislation and regulations.
„X Demonstrate safe work practices and follow company safety policies and procedures at all times.
„X Develop in house training programs as require
„X Deliver of training programs to employees

  • APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA BEFORE BEING CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

Education / Experience:

„X High school education
„X Courses in Human Resources would be an asset.
„X One to two years of HR administrative experience
„X Some formal training in Occupational Health and Safety.
„X Minimum one year of related Health and Safety experience.
„X Understands Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation.

Skills & Knowledge:

„X ability to deal with confidential information
„X demonstrated time management skills, ability to multi task
„X excellent written and verbal communication skills.
„X interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of staff
„X intermediate knowledge of Word and Excel
„X knowledge of safe work practices
„X Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
„X Proven interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
„X Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
„X Intermediate to advanced Computer skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
„X Must be familiar with preparation of charts and graphs.
