Payroll Coordinator
This is a specialized, complex supervisory position, responsible for ensuring the processing of all aspects of payroll in a timely, accurate and efficient manner. Considerable responsibility and independence of action is exercised, working within set guidelines. This position reports to the Payroll Services Manager.
Typical duties pertaining to this position include ensuring that all pay period end processes are carried out effectively, resulting in the production of accurate and timely pay-cheques for all employees of the city. The position requires reviewing, recommending and implementing regulations and other requirements pertinent to payroll processing and labor information-gathering procedures in consultation with the Manager. Other areas of responsibility include ensuring year-end working papers for payroll, benefit and liability are completed accurately and on time; planning, assigning supervising and reviewing the work of payroll staff engaged in various payroll tasks and providing operational direction and solutions to problems; as well as developing PeopleSoft queries to extract relevant payroll information. Performs other related duties as required by the job specification.
The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12, supplemented by accounting courses equivalent to level 3 of a professional accounting designation and CPA Level 2 courses. The incumbent will also have a minimum of 7 years recent payroll experience in a large computerized setting, and in positions of increasing complexity and responsibility, including supervision or an acceptable equivalent combination of training and experience. The incumbent will also have the CPA level 2 certification through the Canadian Payroll Association or equivalent.
