full time Solutions Architect (Vancouver)

at Human Resources in Vancouver

Getting to know Elastic Path Software

Headquartered in downtown Vancouver, BC, Elastic Path Software provides a flexible ecommerce platform and professional services for enterprises. We’ve doubled our revenue each year for the past three years. In 2008 we were named #23 on PROFIT Magazine’s fastest-growing companies in Canada. We have more than 200 clients including Aeroplan, Samsonite, the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and key partners such as Oracle. We currently have 100+ of the smartest people on our team and plan on opening a UK office. As a growing company, we offer a fast-paced, high energy work environment.

What’s exciting about ecommerce?

Ecommerce is one of the few industries still going strong, and that growth is projected to continue. As such, Elastic Path is in a good position to take advantage of these market opportunities. We’ve taken the best of Java technologies to provide a well-architected ecommerce platform that helps customers accelerate innovation while decreasing costs and risk.

We’re looking for a star Solutions Architect

The Solutions Architect will bring extensive experience designing multi-tier software solutions for mid-size and enterprise customers to our professional services team. In this role you will work directly with customers, system integrators and/or our own Professional Services teams to identify business requirements, turn those requirements into a detailed, implementable technical architecture and work with developers to deliver the solution. These solutions typically extend our Java ecommerce platform and integrate it with multiple software components including portals, ERP, CRM and various related systems and services (e.g. analytics, user directory, security, payment) to deliver the required functionality for our customers. Responsibilities will also include short and long-term projects with customers as well as pre-sales support and proof-of-concept projects during which you will design and code prototype solutions.

• Participate in high-level requirements-gathering process with customers to help identify and prioritize business requirements
• Provide guidance on technical design alternatives and their implications (function, cost, complexity etc.) to select the most appropriate design
• Convert the high-level requirements into a complete technical architecture that the development team can implement. These designs will specify necessary extensions to existing Elastic Path components and/or APIs, integration points and mechanisms with external systems, database extensions and so forth
• Transition the project to the (internal or external) development team, explain the design and remain available to address questions or problems that arise during implementation
• Assist with pre- and post-sales guidance, time and budget estimates
• Lead short proof of concept projects (POCs) (plan, design and code prototype) to assist Sales in closing business
• Provide technical training to external clients/partners
• Be an architectural and design resource for professional service projects, clients and partners (provide technical guidance, evaluate alternatives)
• Review customer designs to identify problem areas, propose design alternatives etc.
• Provide occasional internal training courses on items such as design patterns, code refactoring, new technologies, efficient coding, etc.
• Participate in the development of implementation strategies and plans
• Be a strong advocate for the client’s technical needs

It’s as important for you to find the right company as it is for us to find the right candidate. We believe there are some unique skill sets required to succeed in this position:

• Degree in computer science or equivalent
• Minimum of 10 years relevant experience which includes 5 years experience as technical architect/lead designing complex, multi-tier applications for mid-size and enterprise companies
• Strategic view across a broad cross-section of technologies with a strong focus on implementation constraints and trade-offs, performance, scalability and maintainability
• Significant experience with Java, databases, web servers, networking, security etc. and designs that combine these
• Experience working directly with customers in service/consulting engagements
• Experience in integrating with ERP (Oracle, SAP) and Content Management systems
• Understands and can apply knowledge of Internet/Intranet technology, ecommerce, enterprise networking and Database to infrastructure solutions
• General software experience in a Client-Server environment with practical knowledge of distributed and desktop technologies
• Experience in capacity planning, systems performance analysis and optimization in a distributed client/server environment
• Broad knowledge of advanced software environment monitoring & management tools, performance modeling tools, capacity analysis tools, and other advanced modeling and trending tools
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to influence and successfully interface with executive leadership
• Approximately 30% travel with potential for extended travel
• Experience with software development tools such as Maven, Ant etc.

We’re also looking for someone who fits well with our corporate culture:

• Strong interest in ecommerce and technology
• Healthy work ethic and positive can-do attitude
• Ability to take direction and openness to feedback
• Superior project management skills with great attention to detail
• Quick learner and resourcefulness in solving problems
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
