The Sechelt Indian Band is inviting applications for the position of Sechelt Indian Government District and Lands Administrator. This position has two key components: the financial administration of the SIGD and the Lands department; and administering processes related to the SIB’s status as a self-governing First Nation, including drafting laws and managing the tax processes for SIGD lands.
The SIGD and Lands Administrator will work closely with the CAO, Band Council, and Director of Finance to develop and administer budgets related to the SIGD and the Lands departments. The Administrator will also manage the tax process related to all SIB lands, including drafting required laws, preparing tax notices, collecting and remitting payments to other levels of government, and maintaining relationships with other governments and with taxpayers as necessary. Many of the responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the provincial Local Government Act.
Ideally you have completed at least a senior stage of the CA, CMA, or CGA program, and have 5 years of experience working in First Nations or local government with exposure to development of property tax bylaws and municipal corporate officer functions. You will have strong communication skills and interpersonal skills to deal with government officials, taxpayers, and others who require tax-related information. Strong computer skills including exposure to mid-range enterprise financial software, and the ability to successfully manage multiple and changing priorities, round out your qualifications. Some training will be available to build skills in the local government work if required.
